Gunmen kill one in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar, Dec. 15: One person was killed and two others were injured when unidentified men fired at them in the Kurshakati-Molandhubi area under Kazigaon police station in Parbhatjhora subdivision of Kokrajhar today.

The assailants also lobbed grenades while fleeing the spot. Sources said they lobbed three grenades but only one went off.

According to sources, four armed youths on two motorcycles stopped in front of a grocery and started firing indiscriminately killing one and injuring two others.

Motleb Ali, 35, died on the spot after a bullet hit him in his neck. Iman Ali, alias Jugani, 37, was hit by a bullet in his leg. Another person Nasher Ali, 26, was also injured in the grenade explosion.

The incident took place around 3.30pm. The area is nearly 50km from Kokrajhar town and 30km from Dhubri.

Police sources said the NDFB (Songbijit) could be involved in the incident as the area is a stronghold of the outfit. “We suspect the NDFB(S),” said a senior police officer in Kokrajhar.

The injured have been shifted to a hospital. The police have started a search operation in the area to nab the culprits.

On December 1, firing by militants injured three persons, including a 5-year-old child, at Jaldoba Part II under Kazigaon police station in the district.

The general secretary of the All BTC Minority Students Union (ABMSU), Lafekul Islam Ahmed, condemned killing of minorities in the BTAD region.
