Air India’s London-Delhi-Calcutta flight AI020 was delayed by more than nine hours at the capital’s T3 on Sunday.
The flight from London landed at T3 around 1pm and a separate plane was supposed to bring 190 passengers, mostly booked from Delhi, to Calcutta.
The airline informed the fliers in the morning that the Calcutta flight would take off at 7.30pm instead of 2.20pm. “After coming to the airport in the evening, we were told that the flight had been delayed further,” alleged Anindita Roy, a flier. Sources said the flight finally took off around 11.15pm.
An Air India spokesperson said: “We fly a Boeing Dreamliner on this route but two aircraft have been withdrawn for maintenance. That’s why the initial delay. Later, there was a problem in arranging the crew.”
