Calcutta: Bengal looked jittery in the 10 overs they batted on Saturday, but captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla didn’t admit that they are on the backfoot.
“I don’t think we are on the backfoot… Yes I would have liked to bowl Uttar Pradesh out for 30-35 runs less than what they got… But I will still say that our bowlers did a good job in restricting them to 212. Our only problem was that we gave away too many boundary balls,” Shukla said at the post-match media conference.
On being asked why opener Arindam Das was being played despite not looking fully fit, Shukla said: “He himself said in the morning that he is 80 per cent fit… That’s good enough to play. The physio also checked him… It’s good that he has that positive attitude.”
It will be a tough job on Sunday, but the captain’s message for the batsmen is simple. “There’s no message for the batsmen… We have to play tight and do the basics right. We just have to remember that we need points from this match,” Shukla said.
