Free ride for the disabled

Jamshedpur, Dec. 14: Around 10,000 differently abled people residing in Jamshedpur will no longer need to worry about travelling to the civil surgeonís office in Khasmahal to procure disability certificates, which qualify them for benefits under the Persons With Disabilities Act.

Viklang Rath, a free transport service for the disabled launched by Jamshedpur MP Ajoy Kumar, will now operate within the city. Earlier, the SUV used to only ferry the challenged from remote areas of East Singhbhum.

Residents can either send in relatives or call the MPís office in Kasidih to register their names, address and type of disability. The disabled can also register themselves by calling 0657-2220855, 0657-2230042 and 9771062127 between 10am and 6pm daily.

Kumarís representative Sashi Bhusan said they decided to introduce the service within the city after civil surgeonís office was shifted from Sakchi to Khasmahal.

ďThe service that was introduced last year was only available in remote villages of East Singhbhum. However, after the civil surgeonís office was shifted, the disabled in the city started facing problems,Ē said Bhusan, adding that they would spread awareness about the endeavour through posters on buses and autos.
