Calcutta: “Don’t need a reason to come home,” was Dilip Doshi’s prompt reply when asked about his visit to the Eden, on Friday.
A prolific performer for Bengal with his slow left-arm orthodox, Doshi had his share of advice for the present Bengal team as well. According to him, the team should focus on winning right from the very first day of a match.
“I don’t have much idea about the present Bengal team except for a few players. What’s important is having faith in your abilities. No matter whether you are a bowler or a batsman, you should believe in yourself.
“I feel the more Bengal win, the more confidence will they gain,” Doshi pointed out.
The fact that Mohammed Shami and Wriddhiman Saha are part of the national squad in South Africa is a major plus point for Bengal cricket, Doshi stressed.
“It’s a positive sign as quite a few Bengal players are in the fray, while some have been getting into the Indian team. For instance, Shami has had a brilliant start. I must say he made a terrific impression.
Talking about India’s performance in the ongoing series against South Africa, the 65-year-old said: “It takes time to adjust in fast, bouncy pitches of South Africa, especially when you are from the subcontinent.”
