City storm into semis

Guwahati, Dec. 13: City Cricket Club defeated Navarang Cricket Club by four wickets to secure a place in the semi-finals of the 22nd Ankurjyoti Challenge Limited Overs Cricket Tournament for the Ratan Lal Singhania and Mohini Devi Singhania Trophy at Judges Field here today.

The match had to be curtailed to 20 overs a side because of wet ground conditions brought about by overnight rain.

Put in to bat, Navarang were restricted to 113 for the loss of eight wickets in their stipulated 20 overs. Rajiv Kalita scored 24 runs off 29 balls while Nausad Ali contributed 21 runs off 22 deliveries. Sekharjyoti Barman chipped in with 18 runs off five balls. For City, Sohail Rehman and Chandradeep Das scalped two wickets each while Abdulla Majeed picked one.

In reply, City achieved their target losing six wickets in 19.5 overs. Manash Jyoti Gogoi scored 31 runs off 40 balls.

Deepak Bhatt made 22 off 19 balls. For Navarang, Sekharjyoti scalped three wickets conceding 14 runs.

Bud Cricket Coaching Centre registered a convincing 50-run victory over Ulubari Higher Secondary School in their match of the Ankurjyoti Challenge Trophy Under-16 Inter Institution Cricket Tournament at Latasil playground.

Put in to bat, Bud piled up 161 for the loss of four wickets in their stipulated 25 overs. Priyankar Chakraborty top-scored with an unbeaten 56 off 38 balls while Aditya Gautam made 54 off 57 deliveries. Arjun Das and Biswa Sarania scalped one wicket each. In reply, Ulubari were bundled out for 111 runs in 24.1 overs. Noushad Hussain scored 23. Abir Chakraborty was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.

Tennis: Breshna Khan and Naziya Ahmed stormed into the finals of the under-14 girls category of the Anup Lahoty Memorial Open Tennis Championship at India Club here today.

Junior meet: The 22nd All Assam Junior Ranking Tennis Tournament will get under way at the North East Tennis Foundation courts at Dispur here tomorrow.
