The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) on Friday effected two changes in the Under-19 squad for the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy match against Delhi, beginning on December 15.
Ranchi medium-pacer Monu Kumar Singh and Bokaro all-rounder Krishna Patel made the way for Pawan Kumar and Md Iftekhar Ahmed, respectively. Pawan (Jamshedpur) and (Iftekhar) are promising seamers.
Monu has been selected in the Indian U-19 squad and will not be available for remaining matches, while Krishna has been dropped for his inconsistent performances in the last two matches.
The 16-member outfit announced by JSCA also include Virat Singh (captain), Ishan Kishan, Pranay Kumar, Rahil Reyaz Khan, Kaushal Singh, Sheikh Md Shah Rukh, Md Nazim Siddique, Anurag Sanjay, Sumit Kumar, Jagdish Pradhan, Ronit Singh, Md Zeeshan Ali, Kishore Kishore and Shivam Tripathi.
“We have a balanced side and it is expected to do well against Delhi,” said JSCA assistant secretary and selection committee convener Aseem Kumar Singh.
He added the team left for Delhi soon after the match versus Goa in Bokaro on Thursday. Left-arm spinner Zeeshan claimed four wickets in the first innings and finished with five in the second essay to help his team post a slender 15-run win in the match.
Zeeshan’s match-winning performance against Goa notwithstanding, Jharkhand boys have not lived up to the expectations in the last two matches. Skipper Virat has been short on runs, putting extra pressure on the team.
After the Delhi engagement, Jharkhand will face Assam in Ranchi (December 22-25) and then take on Odisha in Jamshedpur (December 29 to January 1).
