Manipur move into semi-final

Imphal, Dec. 12: Manipur moved into the semi-final of the 59th National School Games for Sepak Takraw 2013 held at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium today.

In the boys’ quarter finals, Manipur defeated Madhya Pradesh 3-0 en route to the semi-final. Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Nagaland also made it to the semi-final. In the girls’ category, Nagaland sailed into the semi-final, getting the better of Gujarat and Delhi.

CYLC tennis: N. Premjit Singh made it to the semi-final of the third State Open CYLC Tennis Tournament, 2013 at tennis court, Pishum, today.

Premjit Singh had an easy game against Rk. Pritam, outplaying him 6-0, 6-1. The other matches saw Y. Leelenjee beat Beckhar 6-1,6-3 and Sharat Singh beat Rivaskar 6-4, 6-2 to progress into the semi-final.

In the open doubles event, Brojendro and Rivaskar registered wins against Tomba and his partner Ranjit 6-1, 6-4 to sail into the semi-final.

In the under-10 boys’ category, Rahul, Walter, Bickey, Yaikhomba, Moramba, Ashwarjit and Charles progressed into the next rounds. In the girls’ events, Charmei and Bindiya Devi also progressed into the next round.

Assam under-16 team: Left-arm spinner Bikash Terang will replace frontline batsman Abhilash Das in the Assam under-16 team for their Vijay Merchant Trophy match against hosts Jharkhand at Chaibasa from December 18 to 20. The rest of the team remains unchanged.

GTC chess: The eighth edition of the GTC Chess Grand Prix 2013-2014 will be held at Gauhati Town Club here on December 15. The winner and runners-up of the grand prix will also earn a sponsorship from the GTC Chess Foundation to participate in an international rating tournament after the finale in March.

Swimming: Milanton Dutta, representing Jorhat Swimming Society, bagged a bronze medal in the 100metre breast stroke today and a silver medal yesterday in the 50metre breast stroke event in the under-14 group at the 59th National School Games being held at Pune.
