Citizens blank UKB in qualifier

Imphal, Dec. 12: Citizen Club thrashed UKB Churachandpur by 4-0 goals in the qualifying round of the 57th Sir Churchand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament, 2013 at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

Within four minutes, L. Fernando scored the first goal for Citizen Club.

Citizen Club increased the tally from a penalty after Churachandpur player Thanglemjoy handled the ball in the 39th minute. Palmei Rambo converted the penalty for a 2-0 goal lead in the first half.

Churachandpur’s hope of coming back into the game was dampened, as Shomi Rongrei scored Citizen Club’s third goal in the 42nd minute.

Citizen Club forward L. Fernando came up with his team’s fourth goal from a header in the 74th minute after collecting a cross from Palmei Rambo for the comfortable victory.

Citizen Club will meet Yarkhok United Football Club to decide which team makes it to the final round from the qualifying round on Saturday.

Senior women’s football: Eastern Sporting Union beat Naharol Yaipha Thourang Club by 2-1 goals in the fifth AMFA Senior Women’s Football League, 2013 played earlier at Mapal Kangjeibung.

Th. Umapati and S. Prameshowri scored both the goals for ESU while L. Sanathoi fetched the lone goal for the Naharol Yaipha team.

Volleyball: Volleyball Federation of India has nominated international volleyball referee L. Romeo Singh as one of the match officials for the Senior National Volleyball Championship, 2013 to be held at Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh from December 21-29.

Inter-club archery: The 40 Assam Rifles will hold the Inter-Club Open Archery Championship, 2013 for men from December 14-15 at Keithelmanbi.
