Md. Sp. fans vent their ire

Calcutta: Irate Mohammedan Sporting fans pelted bricks, broke window panes in the stadium, attacked a television crew and hurled chairs after their team’s 2-3 loss to Bengaluru Football Club (BFC), at the Salt Lake Stadium, on Wednesday.

Their target was referee Ratheesh Kumar, who denied the team two penalties. A Bengaluru FC official alleged that bricks were thrown at players at the other side of the ground.

“Their main target was Sunil Chetri. But surprisingly the referee continued with the match. It could have been a repeat of what this stadium witnessed on December 9, 2012.”

The situation could have gone out of control, but the timely intervention of the police made sure everything was in control. A mild lathicharge was all that was needed to disburse the crowd.

Later, Mohammedan Sporting officials alleged that one person was injured in the lathicharge. A club official said they would be sending a letter to the All India Football Federation, complaining against the poor standard of refereeing in Wednesday’s match.

Talking about Abdul Aziz Moshood’s future, the official said that they would take a call only after the match at Churchill Brothers on Sunday. Luciano Sabrosa and Joshimar will be missing the match due to suspension.
