KLO calls to trader for cash

Cooch Behar, Dec. 11: A businessman from Dinhata has lodged an FIR alleging that a man who claims to be a KLO member has been calling him and asking for Rs 25 lakh.

A police source said the fertiliser stockist filed the complaint yesterday evening.

Rana Goswami, the secretary of the Dinhata Byabsayee Samity, claimed that two other traders had received similar calls recently. “Three of our members have received calls from people claiming to be KLO members and all of them have been asked to pay Rs 25 lakh each,” he said.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the fertiliser stockist said he had received the first call on Monday. “On Monday, I got a call from a person who said he was Dayal Rajbangshi of the KLO and demanded Rs 25 lakh. I did not pay much heed to the call. However, when I received the call again yesterday, I lodged a written complaint with police. I have mentioned the phone number from where the call came,” he said.

A police source said Fazle Karim Miyan, the father of Abdul Barek, 45, a tobacco trader, also filed an FIR yesterday evening, saying his son had been missing since December 4.

“The missing diary mentions that Barek had gone to Goalpara for some work on December 1. He had called on December 4 and said he was boarding a bus to return home. But since then, his family has not been able to contact him,” said the police source.

“We have received two written complaints. We are investigating both the cases and all angles are being looked into. That is all I can say at the moment,” said Deborshi Datta, the additional police superintendent.
