City emerge champions

Guwahati, Dec. 11: Hosts City Cricket Coaching Centre Blue emerged champions of the first City Challenge Inter-Coaching Centre under-13 cricket tournament, defeating Chandmari Cricket Coaching Centre A by an overwhelming margin of 125 runs in the final at the Janata Bhawan Parade Ground here today.

Put in to bat, the hosts piled up a mammoth total of 216 for the loss of five wickets in their stipulated 30 overs. Ivan Deka topscored with an unbeaten 51 runs off 32 balls while Angajudid Gogoi chipped in with 45 runs off 62 deliveries. Rohan Hazarika was the other notable contributor with 25 runs off 20 balls.

For Chandmari, Himjyoti Sarma bagged two for 35 runs in six overs. In reply, Chandmari were bundled out for 91 runs in 15.3 overs. Rohit Kumar Roy scored 16 runs off 24 balls while Aniket Talukdar was the only other notable contributor with 12 runs off 10 balls. For City, Purbajyoti Lahkar bagged five wickets for 14 runs in four overs.

Ivan Deka was adjudged Man of the Match for his splendid show with the bat while Himjyoti Sarma was awarded the Man of the Series.

Angajudid was adjudged the Best Batsman of the tournament while Purbajyoti walked away with the Best Bowler of the tournament award.

Sepak Takraw: The Assam Sepak Takraw Association will organise the 30th Inter-District Sepak Takraw Championship in association with Jorhat District Sepak Takraw Association in Jorhat from December 20 to 23.
