Bodo actor, dramatist passes away

Kokrajhar, Dec. 11: Renowned Bodo artiste, dramatist and singer, Ghana Kanta Basumatary, died today after a prolonged illness at his own residence at Hatimata here.

He was 69.

A multifaceted personality, Basumatary acted in the first Bodo motion picture, Daina. He also acted in Bodo feature film Jeuni Simang and as a character artiste in Dahal.

Basumatar, who was a teacher by profession, had been bedridden after he suffered a cardiac arrest in January.

He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and daughter-in law. His song on the All India Radio, Awi lwi bajwi swithw jugaoni lwi bajwi swithw jugaonni, is still popular.

He brought alive the character of Raja Iraqdao in a radio play on AIR.
