Calcutta: The 17-year-old Ishita Tibrewal from Modern High School stole the limelight on the second day of the Kolkata Invitational Sports — an inter-school athletic meet organised by the Debanjan Sen Foundation — at the La Martiniere for Boys school, winning two gold medals on Tuesday.
Ishita clinched the gold in the under-19 girls’ discus throw and retained the under-19 800m title. While she threw the discus as far as 17.15m, a timing of 3:17:52 seconds brought her 800m title.
Another Modern High girl, Shiuli Dasgupta (14.44m), came third in the discus. The second place went to Bhavna Mandappa (14.73m) of Sushila Birla School. In under-16 discus, Devika Anand of Sushila Birla won with a throw of 15.10m. Army Public School’s Smriti Mohan (12.19m) and Deblina Sutradhar (11.94m) came second and third, respectively.
Rik Dasgupta jumped as high as 1.50m to win the under-19 gold, while Julien Day School’s Azaan Yohann Karim (1.50m) won the under-16 high jump.
