Dhaka: Political tension was already there and the ICC had said that they would be monitoring the situation in Bangladesh in the lead-up to the World T20 next year. But an explosion outside the hotel of a touring under-19 West Indian team in the port city of Chittagong has made scenario worse.
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has already withdrawn their under-19 squad from the seven-match series, after considering a report from their security manager Paul Slowe. “The report emphasised that the current security environment in Bangladesh is not conducive to the playing of cricket…,” the WICB said in a statement.
But the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has played down any security fears. According to BCB officials, the Board is trying to persuade the team from the Caribbean to stay on. We’ve talked to the West Indies under-19 team management. They are happy with the arrangements. (PTI)
