Calcutta, Dec. 9: A public interest litigation was filed before Calcutta High Court today demanding a CBI probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 150 crore at the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority.
Sujay Ghatak, the general secretary of the Siliguri Congress and a councillor from ward number 16 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, filed the PIL.
This is the second PIL moved before the high court with the same demand. Earlier, on December 6, state BJP vice-president, Badsha Alam, had moved a petition demanding a CBI probe into the alleged scam.
“Both the PILs are likely to be heard together by the division bench headed by Chief Justice A. K. Mishra on December 13,” said Ghatak’s counsel, Rabishankar Chatterjee.
Today's PIL claimed that the misappropriation of public funds had raised several questions in the minds of the common people.
“Many senior leaders of the ruling Trinamul Congress, who are members of the SJDA, are allegedly involved in the scam. Not only that, former CEO of the SJDA is also involved. So, the court should ask the CBI to conduct a probe in the matter,” said the petitioner’s lawyer.
