Six rifles looted from SPOs

Kokrajhar, Dec. 9: Armed men looted six .303 rifles from Simbargaon Muzabari special police officer (SPO) camp under Kokrajhar police station here around 2 this morning.

“The men looted the arms allotted to homeguards at gunpoint and fled in the cover of darkness,” said an SPO officer deployed in the camp.

Nine PSOs were present in the camp when they were attacked.

The SPO camp, at Muzabari village, was set up after the 2012 violence in the BTAD area to restore peace and unity.

An investigation has been ordered into the incident.

The PSOs were brought to Kokrajhar police station to record their statements.

“Strong operations are going on in the area. Seven persons, suspected to be involved in the looting, were picked up for interrogation,” said a senior police officer.
