Hosts clinch 10-wkt victory over Odisha

Guwahati, Dec. 9: Assam continued with their formidable form in the Cooch Behar Trophy under-19 cricket plate group B campaign, clinching a 10-wicket victory against Odisha within two days of the four-day match at Golaghat today.

Bowling out the visitors for 63 in the first innings, Assam today resumed their first innings at overnight 187 for six and were all out for 231 in 78.4 overs. The Assam bowlers took little over a session to bundle out the visitors for 183 in 58.1 overs in their second innings, too. Needing only 16 runs in the second innings for the outright victory, Assam openers Hrishikesh Tamuli (9) and Yatin Malik (9) remained unbeaten scoring 18 in 2.1 overs.

Assam middle order bat Biku Borgohain, who was not out overnight, anchored the Assam innings this morning scoring 27 runs, laced with four boundaries, as wickets tumbled at the other end on regular intervals.

K. Dasmanikpuri of Odisha hauled five wickets for 71 runs and A. Barik claimed two for 36.

The visitors could not gain a firm hold in the second innings as Assam spinners Roshan Alam, Amar Alam and Romario Sharma ripped through the innings with scalps at quick intervals.

While Romario and Roshan took three wickets each for six and 54 runs respectively, Amar claimed two for 26.

S. Mishra topscored for the visitors with 41 (6x4, 1x6) while S. Samal and Ranjit Singh contributed 30 (5x4) and 29 (3x4) respectively.

Assam tallied a bonus point from the match. Earlier, Assam handed an eight-wicket defeat to Goa in the campaign opener at Mangaldoi last week.

Assam will next play Andhra Pradesh at Nagaon from December 15 to 18.
