Imphal, Dec. 9: Yarkhok United Football Club, Ukhrul beat Peace Humanity Labour and Youth Organisation by 3-1 goals to progress in the qualifying round of the 57th Sir Churchand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament 2013 at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
Yarkhok United started well and found their mark in the 35th minute with Pamreishang Horam ruffling the net through a pass from Khararpam Shimrah to post a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Trailing by a goal, the Peace Humanity team found it hard to settle and Yarkhok United made matters worse for its opponent with Thotreishang Muinao getting the second goal for his team in the 63rd minute.
Peace Humanity made the only connection in the 79th minute with Manmingthang Baite finding the net from a goalmouth pass from M. Johnny to trim the gap to 1-2 goals. But their hard work was shadowed with Yarkhok United adding another goal during injury time with Pamreishang Horam, outpacing a Peace defender to push home an easy goal.
In another match, MYSC Churachandpur beat Young Physique Union by 5-4 goals during tiebreak to move into the next round. This is the second victory for the Churachandpur team.
Ranjan Singh and his partner Ibohal Singh sailed into the final of the doubles event of the 3rd State Level CYLC Tennis Tournament at Tennis Court, Pishum today.
In the semi-finals of the above 40 doubles, Ranjan and Ibohal gave a hard time to T. Pamei and Kangjamba Singh for a 6-2, 6-2 victory en route to the final.
In the second semi-final, Dilip Singh and his partner beat Pradip and Iboton Singh 6-1, 4-6 (105) during tiebreak to move into the final as well.
In the menís open doubles, Romen Singh and Ashok Singh beat Beckhar and Toleshwor Singh 9-7 and Brojendro and his partner Rivashker beat Prakash and Momo 9-1 to proceed into the second round.
The menís open singles saw Ashok Singh, S. Chaoba, Rahul Singh and T. Pamei register wins to move into the prequarter final of the meet.
