New Delhi, Dec. 9: A newly elected MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party has been accused of sexual harassment by a relative of a vanquished Congress candidate.
The relative of former Congress MLA Veer Singh Dhingan lodged a complaint against AAP legislator Dharmender Singh Koli. Dhingan, a three-term MLA from Seemapuri in northeast Delhi, was defeated by Koli.
Koli, AAP’s youngest MLA, said tonight the charges against him were false and alleged “political conspiracy”. “The charges are false. It is a political conspiracy by the Congress leader who has been defeated by the people,” the MLA said.
The relative alleged that Koli and his supporters entered a house on Sunday and misbehaved with women during the MLA’s victory celebration. The first-time MLA was also charged with throwing alcohol bottles inside a temple.
AAP functionaries confirmed that police had registered a case. The AAP supporters termed the complaint “political vendetta”.
But they promised action against the MLA if the charges were found true.
“Congress leaders are unable to accept defeat. The case is a manifestation of the Congress’s vendetta politics,” said Ankit Lal, an AAP functionary.
Lal said a number of cases had been slapped against the newly elected MLA.
PTI quoted a police officer as saying: “We have registered an FIR of molestation and rioting against Koli and others after a complaint and a statement by a lady that AAP members allegedly entered their house and misbehaved with her. Investigations are on.”
