Bokaro teen missing, kin fear kidnap

Even before Bokaro could come to terms with the kidnap and killing of an 11-year-old schoolboy, it has received the rude jolt of another student — a teenager studying in junior college — going missing from her tuition trip.

According to the FIR lodged on Monday, the 16-year-old intermediate science pupil of Jaina More College, 18km from Bokaro steel city, was last seen on December 4. The daughter of a government driver in Kodadih, on the fringes of the steel city, the girl left home that afternoon for private coaching barely half a kilometre away. She never returned.

Family members searched for her all this while before filing a formal complaint with local Balidih police. Though no ransom call has been received so far, they fear she has been abducted.

Her mother told police that the girl went for tuition around 1.30pm and they had expected her to return within three hours as usual. When she did not come back past 8pm, her parents lodged a verbal complaint with Balidih police. An FIR was lodged only on Monday.

“I request police to bring me my teenager back. I am scared she has been kidnapped. A few days ago a student of St Xavier’s School was kidnapped from his tuition too. He did not make home alive. I fear for my child’s life. Please do something,” the sobbing mother made a public appeal.

A close friend and neighbour of the missing girl said she was a hard-working student who took private coaching daily after college.

“She was not extraordinary in her studies, but she was sincere. I can’t believe she is missing,” the friend said.

Officer-in-charge of Balidih police station Bir Singh confirmed the FIR. “Police are searching local crime dens for the student. We will leave no stone unturned to find her,” he said.

Incidentally, a futile police hunt for Sudhanshu Kumar Singh, a Class VI student of St Xavier’s School abducted on November 26, had ended after his brutal killing by four youths. The child’s decomposed body was found in a ditch along GT Road near Hazaribagh on December 7.
