Shillong, Dec. 8: The Meghalaya Right to Information Movement has congratulated Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Admi Party (AAP) for its historic victory in Delhi Assembly polls.
In a statement issued here on behalf of the RTI activists here, Michael N. Syiem and Angela Rangad termed AAP’s triumph in Delhi Assembly elections “game-changing”.
“Comrade Kejriwal whose party has impressively defeated the conventional political parties of the country on an anti-corruption platform has redefined the contours of electoral politics,” the statement said.
Kejriwal had visited Meghalaya’s capital Shillong twice to aid the people on RTI campaign in 2004 and attended the national RTI convention held in 2010.
According to the Meghalaya RTI body , the AAP has taken Delhi by storm by defeating seasoned politicians. It said Meghalaya, plagued by umpteen scams, needs to take a leaf out of AAP’s win and refrain from its habitual cynicism against people’s movements but rather resolve to bring in systemic and lasting changes.
“The AAP has exhibited that rooting out corruption is very much central to every citizen and that an alternative politics is needed and is possible,” the statement added.
