India’s largest

Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Ltd (TSPDL), formerly known as Tata Ryerson, a cent per cent subsidiary of Tata Steel, installed India’s largest hot rolled (HR) coil slitting facility at its Jamshedpur plant. Tata Steel president (total quality management and steel business) Anand Sen inaugurated the facility on December 3. TSPDL managing director Sandipan Chakravortty and chief operating officer Abraham Stephanos were present at the event. Sen stressed on plant safety and lauded TSPDL for moving from a production-oriented company to a service-oriented one. “We go the last mile for customer delight. Excellence in services is our new vision,” agreed Chakravortty

Mecon battery

Ranchi-based engineering consultant major Mecon Limited successfully commissioned coke oven battery No. 2 of SAIL’s Durgapur Steel Plant on December 2. The battery — in layman’s terms, a set of ovens that processes coal into coke — will produce 0.5MT of gross coke per annum. With this, Mecon has so far designed and commissioned 24 coke oven batteries across the country. The one in Durgapur is the third in 2013, the other two at steel plants of SAIL, Rourkela, and IISCO, Burnpur

Maruti address

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has a new showroom in Hehal, Ranchi, opened by authorised dealer Sudha Motors on December 4. Other existing dealers include Premsons Motor Udyog with two showrooms, one each on Kanke Road and Bariatu Road, as well as Sushila Automobiles on Main Road


Health camp at martyr village

Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), which has adopted Jari village in Gumla, the birthplace of 1971 Bangladesh war hero Albert Ekka, marked his death anniversary on December 3 with a free health camp. Doctors examined 70 villagers in Jari, Gumla district, and distributed medicines free of cost. Ekka, the posthumous recipient of India's highest gallantry award Param Vir Chakra, died in combat, aged 28
