Odafe thanks Karim

Calcutta: Mohun Bagan fans are going gaga over new recruit Christpher Chizoba, who scored a brace in his very first game. But Okolie Odafe is not one to be impressed so easily.

After Saturday’s practice session, Odafe said that he would be able to do an assessment of Chizoba only after seeing him in some more matches.

“He is good… But he has played just one match… Let him play a few more, only then will I be able to comment on him. It’s not possible to form an opinion after just one match,” Odafe said.

The Nigerian star seemed pretty hurt by the fans’ ‘Go back Odafe’ chants that were made after the club’s loss to Rangdajied United FC.

“The pressure that was there on the team would have impacted any junior player negatively. But I have seen this before, I’m used to the pressure of playing in a club like Bagan, so I was somehow able to manage it. Some said ‘Odafe is finished’… But I would like to point out that I was coming out of an injury and it’s only natural that I will need some time to get back to form.

He also expressed gratitude to coach Karim Bencharifa for being by his side. “The club officials, and especially our coach, supported me when I needed them most. They had faith in me and I’m thankful to them. It motivated me to do well,” he said.

The striker was also quite confident about Mohun Bagan and East Bengal’s chances in the ongoing I-League.
