Calcutta: India’s youngsters continued their impressive show in Round II of the SREI International Grandmasters Chess Tournament, organised by the Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy in association with Allsport Foundation, at the Town Hall, on Saturday.
Nineteen- year-old IM Prasanna Rao held the second seed, GM Ivan Popov of Russia, to a creditable draw in a semi-Slav defence after a listless position was reached in 24 moves. Fifteen-year-old N.R. Vignesh, who had upset third seed GM Levan Pantsulaia on Friday, put up another sterling performance to hold GM R.R. Laxman to a draw, taking his tally to 1.5 points.
GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly, meanwhile, defeated Nisha Mohota.
