IOA likely to toe the IOC line

New Delhi: Faced with the prospect of being kicked out of the Olympic movement, the suspended Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will hold its crucial general body meeting on Sunday to decide on amending the constitution that will bar charge-sheeted officials from contesting elections.

On Saturday, the IOC chief Thomas Bach renewed the threat saying the IOC was prepared to withdraw recognition of the IOA if it failed to comply with “rules of good governance” by Tuesday. That would leave India out of the Olympic movement and all sports events governed by the IOC.

Though there are indications that top IOA officials will now push for the amendment in Sunday’s meeting, a section in the apex body are still keeping their fingers crossed.
