Sivasagar, Dec. 7: Police tonight arrested the man involved in the hijack of a school van carrying 11 students and subsequent abduction of Gunjan Sharma, a Class VIII student of Nazira Kendriya Vidyalaya.
A top district police officer said a police team had arrested Biman Bora, 36, the prime accused in the case, from Simaluguri station around 9pm. “We had collected information about the accused two days back and launched an operation to nab him. We had information that the accused was hiding in Dibrugarh. A police team led by Nazira subdivisional police officer Asif Ahmed went there and tracked him down. He somehow managed to escape from Dibrugarh on a motorcycle and reached Simaluguri station at night,” the police officer said.
He said the police had arrested Bora from the railway station and he was being interrogated. “Bora confessed to his involvement in the incident. The accused is a resident of Chaporgaon near Bokakhat.”
