MP targets Munda

Jamshedpur, Dec. 7: JVM MP Ajoy Kumar took on former chief minister Arjun Munda today, accusing him of having a hand in the fortunes of BJP spokesman Amarpreet Singh Kale, who is under the scanner for alleged tax evasion.

Referring to yesterday’s income tax (I-T) search operations at Kale’s residence and offices in Jamshedpur and elsewhere, Kumar said it was enough proof that he had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

As many as 20 teams, comprising I-T (investigation) officials from Jharkhand and Bihar, had carried out searches at Kale’s offices and business establishments also in Delhi, Calcutta, Gurgaon yesterday.

The raids continued at the BJP leader’s Jamshedpur establishments today.

“I have already written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, seeking a CBI probe into the wealth amassed by Kale and his links with Arjun Munda. I will meet the directors of CBI and Enforcement Directorate, director (investigation) of I-T department and chief vigilance commissioner of India to request for proper investigations. Everybody knows that Kale is close to Arjun Munda. Hence, people have the right to know how they amassed so much wealth and huge properties between 2003 and 2013,” Kumar said at a news meet today.

The JVM leader added he would also meet Union finance minister P. Chidambaram in the coming week.

“Amarpreet Singh Kale was a simple trader. After Arjun Munda became the chief minister, he bagged lucrative business deals, using his political links,” the Jamshedpur MP alleged.

He also called for a probe into benefits earned by Kale and Munda after the Tata Steel lease renewal agreement in 2005 and from construction of Adityapur-Kandra Road among other deals.
