Hospital FIR after ransack and assault

Siliguri, Dec. 6: The Siliguri District Hospital authorities have filed an FIR against relatives of a patient for allegedly ransacking the hospital and assaulting two guards late last night after the duo stopped them from entering.

“A one-year-old girl was admitted here on Wednesday with respiratory infection. Yesterday, apparently the child’s mother called up her husband around 10.30pm to say the doctors were not treating the girl properly and her condition had worsened. This was not true. The child was stable,” said hospital superintendent Sanjib Majumdar.

Around 11pm, the girl’s father Joy Majumdar and another person came to the hospital.

“Guards Manindra Dutta and Krishna Mondal did not let them in as visitors are not allowed after the visiting hours. After 10 minutes, around 20 people came and started assaulting the guards. Some people broke glass doors near the entrance. Police were informed and they arrived in 20 minutes,” an official said.

The visiting hours are from 11am to 12noon and 6pm to 7pm everyday.

“The guards pushed us away. When we protested, they started assaulting us. The allegations against us are untrue,” Majumdar said.

A police officer said: “We are looking into the matter.”
