Morcha leader Parihar dead

Kalimpong, Dec. 6: The chairman of Kalimpong municipality, L.B. Parihar, died at a nursing home in Siliguri around 1.30am today. He was suffering from lung cancer.

Parihar, 76, was an IAS officer of 1963 cadre and a former principal secretary of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council. After the formation of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha in 2007, he joined the party and was a leading member of the organisation’s study forum. He became the chairman of the Kalimpong municipality in 2010.

Morcha president Bimal Gurung mourned the passing away of Parihar in his Facebook post.

“I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Mr. L.B Pariyar…His commitment, dedication and strong responsibility to Kalimpong will continue to serve as a source of inspiration for everyone in Kalimpong. In this hour of grief, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to his family and friends,” he said.

Parihar is survived by his wife, two daughters, son, and grandchildren.

A family source said his funeral would take place at 11am on Sunday.
