Guwahati, Dec. 6: The Lakhimpur district administration today appealed to media to use restraint while reporting about the incident of death of a woman in the district last month.
There has been an uproar in the district over the November 22 incident, following reports that the woman was allegedly raped and then killed, an angle those monitoring the probe have ruled out till now.
A press communiqué issued by the district administration stated that investigation into the incident is on and the matter is now sub-judice. So, it is desirable for media to use restraint while reporting about the incident.
Some vested interest groups have been trying to spread rumour about the incident to create tension, it added.
On November 27, DGP J.N. Choudhury had told The Telegraph that the victim was not raped but had died of blunt trauma.
