A division bench of Calcutta High Court directed the Calcutta Municipal Corporation and the authorities of the Lake Kali temple on Southern Avenue on Wednesday to remove debris from the pavement in front of the shrine within six months.
The bench of Justice Ashim Kumar Banerjee and Justice Debangsu Basak passed the order on a petition filed by Jayanta Chatterjee, a resident.
The temple was being renovated and the debris were being dumped on the pavement. During an earlier hearing, the temple’s lawyer had sought time to remove it.
Chatterjee on Friday said that three months have passed since the last hearing but nothing has been done.
“The court should ask the temple authorities to remove the debris immediately,” he submitted.
