Kerala continue dream run

Imphal, Dec. 5: Kerala cyclists continued to dominate by bagging three more gold medals in the 66th senior, 43rd junior and 29th sub-junior National Track Cycling Championship held at Cycle Velodrome, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

Andaman and Nicobar cyclist Deborah also created history as she broke a 12-year-old record in the 500m individual time trial in the women’s junior category. Deborah clocked 37.909 seconds to create the new national record, which was earlier held by Manipur cyclist Ch. Rameshowri Devi who clocked 39.244 seconds in 2001 at the National Games, Ludhiana. H. Bedana Devi and Rk. Abe Devi of Manipur settled for the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Kerala added three more gold medals to give them a total of eight gold in the meet. Alan Baby got gold in the 1,000m individual time trial men’s junior category while Amala Vinod got the gold in the 500m individual time trial in sub-junior girls’ event and Sanuraj P. won the 500m individual time trial in sub-junior boys’ event.

Deborah claimed her second gold medal in the 500m individual time trial for the elite women’s category.

BSNL also won their first gold in the 1,000m individual time trial elite men’s category with O. Bikram Singh winning the medal.

After Kerala, hosts Manipur and Andaman and Nicobar have two gold each.
