Imphal, Dec. 4: Manipur cyclists claimed six medals, including two gold, on the opening day of the 66th senior, 43rd junior and 29th sub-junior National Track Cycling Championship held at Cycle Velodrome, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
However, Kerala cyclists hogged the limelight by bagging seven medals, including five gold.
Manipur got their first gold medal in the junior women’s 6km scratch race with T. Manorama Devi winning it while compatriots H. Bedana Devi took the silver and G. Manisha of Tamil Nadu fetched the bronze medal.
The host team got the second gold with T. Hemanta Singh winning the 500m individual time trial youth boys’ event while Naraiyan Singh Rathore of Punjab took the silver and Th. Bishorjit of Manipur settled for the bronze medal.
In the 10km scratch race junior men’s event, Basappa M.T. of Kerala claimed the gold while Rubalpreet Singh of Punjab and Kishore Jadhav of Maharashtra fetched the silver and bronze medals respectively.
The other Kerala gold medals came in the 5km scratch race in the under-16 boys’ event from Sanuraj P, 4km scratch race in the under-16 girls’ event from Nayana Rajesh P, 10km scratch race for elite women’s category from Mahitha Mohan and Aleena Reji in the 500m individual time trial event.
In the 15km scratch race for the men’s elite category, it was an all-Punjab affair with Sarpreet Singh, Ravindra Singh and Abhinanadan Bhsale claiming the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
