The high court on Wednesday issued an interim stay on the removal of West Bengal State University registrar Rampada Bera.
The vice-chancellor of the Barasat university, Kaushik Gupta, sacked Bera on November 25 for allegedly misappropriating funds and misbehaving with a woman employee of a Sonarpur college. “I will join office (of the registrar) on Thursday as the court has reinstated me,” said Bera.
Justice Sambuddha Chakrabarty, who stayed the sacking following a plea by Bera, directed the VC to file an affidavit stating what forced him to issue the order. The VC could not be reached for comment.
The ruling came two days after the education minister Bratya Basu told the Assembly on Monday that the government had issued a showcause notice to VC Gupta for dismissing Bera.
