Calcutta: Mohun Bagan, on Tuesday, have released Kenyan striker Eric Muranda and roped in Christopher Chizoba of Peerless SC. Chizoba will be on loan till January and when the second transfer window opens, he will be given a six-month contract.
Bagan play United SC in an I-League match on Friday and Christopher is expected to play a part during the match.
Eric started very well, but his form dipped as the season progressed. He was pulled out at half-time during Bagan’s 0-2 loss to Rangdajied United Football Club.
Later coach Karim Bencharifa had said: “Eric has lost confidence. So I had no other option but to pull him out.”
Bagan, at present, are languishing at the 11th spot in the 13-team I-League, but United SC coach Eelco Schattorie is not taking them lightly.
“Their backs are against the wall. They will come hard at us. I am 100 per cent sure about that. We cannot afford to take them lightly,” he said.
Eelco refused to talk about Okolie Odafe’s slump in form. Instead, he spoke about how badly he wanted Ranty Martins to fire, on Friday.
“I want Ranty to score. He hasn’t been getting goals of late. So it will not be bad if he gets one on Friday,” Eelco said.
Eelco said Lalkamal Bhowmick may play for 10 to 15 minutes against Mohun Bagan.
“He is regaining match fitness. Straightaway, I cannot give him a start. May be, against Bagan, he will come in as a substitute,” he said.
United SC got a point at Pune FC and Eelco said his team would draw confidence from that match. “That was a good match. And I am happy to earn a point on the road.”
United will welcome back Eric Brown, who missed the match against East Bengal due to suspension.
