Calcutta: The city will host the 4th National Lawn Bowls Championship, at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Maidan tent, from Dec. 12-17.
The meet assumes significance as the Indian team for the next year’s Commonwealth Games will be picked on the basis of the performance here.
“This will also be the first time that the National Lawn Bowls will be held on natural grass lawns, which will benefit the Indian players as the Glasgow Games will also be held on the same surface,” Devesh Srivastava, working president of the West Bengal Bowling Association, said.
Over 100 players representing 10 states will vie for eight gold medals in men’s and women’s events. A.K. Choudhury, GOC Bengal Area and Koel Mullick will be present during the inauguration on Dec. 12.
