Players’ appeal

Calcutta: Mohammedan Sporting players, on Tuesday, requested the club officials to back them instead of criticising their performance.

On the eve of their CFL match against Railway FC, at the Barasat Stadium, the players had an hour-long meeting with senior officials Iqbal Ahmed and Mohammed Kamaruddin.

“The players were not happy with the way the officials were giving statements to the media. It’s affecting the morale of the team. The players requested the officials to support them and not spoil the mood,” a source said.

The club also decided not to showcause Australian striker Tolgay Ozebe for his misconduct. “Tolgay apologised for his misconduct and we have settled the matter amicably,” a club official said.

Tolgay, who is nursing a calf strain, is a doubtful starter for the Wednesday’s match, while Ishfaq Ahmed who took a bad knock on right sheen, may also miss the starting XI.
