Tripura tally three points

Guwahati, Dec. 3: Hosts Tripura today tallied three points by virtue of a first innings lead from a drawn three-day match against Assam in their Vijay Merchant Trophy under-16 campaign opener in Agartala.

Chasing Assamís first innings total of 305, the home side resumed this morning at overnight 200 for two and were all out for 364 in 143 overs in the first innings. Assam were 23 for one in 16 overs when both sides decided to settle for the draw without playing the mandatory overs of the last day today.

Tripura opener D. Debbarma, who was not out on 106 overnight, was the first victim of the day today when he snicked one from pacer Akash Sengupta to be caught behind Abhishek Thakuri at 110 (18x4).

His overnight partner S. Gan, however, rallied on to score 63 (13x4) sharing a fourth-wicket partnership of 63 runs with Subham Ghosh (37, 6x4) before being dismissed.

S. Debbarma (26, 4x4) and Sankar Paul (24 not out, 3x4) were the other notable scorers for the home side.

Assam pacer Sengupta returned with a haul of five for 77 while Ridip Mohan also scalped four for 30.

In Assamís second innings, they lost the wicket of skipper Abhishek Thukuri (15, 3x4) while D. Riyan Parag remained unbeaten on eight.

Assam will next meet Odisha at Hailakandi from December 7 to 9.

Powerlifting: The Guwahati District Physical Culture Association announced a 15 - member team which will participate in the 41st All Assam Inter-District Powerlifting Championship at Barama in Baksa district from December 14 to 16.

Beach volleyball: The Assam Volleyball Association will organise the All Assam Inter-District Beach Volleyball Championship in association with the Dibrugarh Sports Association from January 4 to 5. Interested district units have been asked to confirm their participation before December 30.
