Panaji, Dec. 3: Maharashtra revenue minister Narayan Rane’s son Nitesh today impersonated his elder brother Nilesh to avoid paying a Rs 250 toll tax for crossing over into Goa.
After refusing to pay, Nitesh assaulted a tollbooth worker who asked him to produce an identity proof and smashed a section of the plaza. While Nilesh is an MP who does not have to pay toll tax anywhere in the country as part of his parliamentary privileges, Nitesh is required to do so under the law.
“Nilesh has been working hard in Sindhudurg where the Shiv Sena is trying to stage a comeback but, if he cannot rein in Nitesh, it will not bode well for him with the top leadership,” said a Maharashtra Congress MP.
Nitesh, who runs an NGO, was asked to leave the Youth Congress for his misdemeanours in 2010. In 2011, a road rage incident drove him to lock horns with Sena boss Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya.
Goa police have lodged an FIR against him and eight men who were with him at the Dhargal inter-state tollbooth, 30km from Panaji, for impersonation and vandalising. “He was later picked up from a hotel in Calangute,” said Goa DGP Kishan Kumar.
