1.5 lakh snatched from biker

Two motorcycle-borne criminals snatched a bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh from a biker near Jusco corporate office in Bistupur police station area on Tuesday afternoon.

Kishore Kumar Singh, 57, was returning to his Gurdwara Road residence in Mango around 1.45pm after withdrawing the money from Bistupur branch of State Bank of India when the incident took place.

Police have registered a case of theft on the basis of an FIR lodged by Singh, a contractor with public works department.

Singh has said in the FIR that after withdrawing the amount, he put it in a plastic bag. He then hung the bag on the bike’s handle and headed home.

“As I neared Jusco office, two bike-borne youths came from behind and the pillion- rider snatched the bag. As soon as the bag was off the handle, the bike sped away,” he said.

He started shouting as soon as the snatching occurred. But, when fellow commuters did not react, he started chasing the duo. “On Hill View Road crossing, a car came in my way and I had to slam the brakes. The snatchers sped away,” he said.

He added that the snatchers were in mid-twenties but he did not see their faces. The bike seemed new and did not have a numberplate.

Bistupur OC A.K. Yadav said they had started investigations. “The criminals must have followed the victim from the bank and were aware of the huge sum he was carrying. So, we will check CCTV footage in the bank to establish their identities,” he said.
