School meet from Dec.6

Guwahati, Dec. 2: Royal Global School here today announced the launch of an inter-school sports meet on its premises here from December 6 to 8, in what may be described as a befitting tribute to former state tennis player and accomplished coach Anup Lahoty,

The event, proposed to be an annual meet, will involve four disciplines — tennis, basketball, table tennis and badminton.

Lahoty was the chief sports co-ordinator of the school at the time of his death in May this year.

The school principal and education officer, Arup Mukhopadhyay, said altogether 40 schools from across the state have been invited and nine of them already confirmed participation.

“We are launching the meet as a tribute to Anup Lahoty, who has made an immense contribution towards sports in Assam as well as abroad. It will be an event where we are not charging any entry fee and the visiting teams would be provided accommodation and food free of cost during the tournament days,” he said.
