Erik ton puts Assam ahead

Guwahati, Dec. 2: A century by middle order batsman Erik Roy helped Assam post 305 all out in 103 overs in the first innings against hosts Tripura in their Vijay Merchant Trophy under-16 East Zone cricket tournament in Agartala today.

The home side, too, got a solid start with D. Debbarma cracking a century to help the side reach 200 for two in 85 overs at close of the second day of the three-day match. Earlier in the day, Roy resumed at the overnight 90 to rally on with the tailenders providing able stands to score 121 (18x4) before being caught behind off P. Kathayat to be the eighth wicket down.

His overnight partner Rohan Dutta remained not out on 12 (2x4). Sankar Paul, P. Kathayat and R. Roy of Tripura shared three wickets each for 57, 78 and 79 runs respectively. The hosts had a sound opening with Pallab Das (80, 16x4) and Debbarma (106 batting, 18x4) sharing a partnership of 168 runs before the former was trapped plumb by pacer Ridip Mohan.
