Guwahati, Dec. 2: Hosts Assam today took a 175-run first-innings lead against Goa in their Cooch Behar Trophy under-19 plate group B campaign opener at Mangaldoi Stadium.
Bowling out the visitors for 131 in the first innings yesterday, the home side resumed at the overnight 148 for five.
They were all out for 306 in 79.4 overs in the first innings this afternoon.
The visitors were 182 for six in 52 overs at stumps on the second day of the four-day affair.
Assam opener Yatin Malik, who was 56 not out this morning, became a casualty of the nervous nineties when he got out at 92 (8x4, 1x6) playing one from K.D. Costa to P. Gawas at the slips.
Roshan Alam (49, 2x4, 5x6) also narrowly missed a half-century playing an entertaining strokeful knock off 41 balls.
Dhrubajyoti Das resumed at his overnight nine to give a 60-run stand with Malik before becoming the first wicket of the day to fall at his individual score of 26 (4x4).
A. Pandrekar was Goa’s wrecker-in-chief, having hauled seven for 75.
D. Costa claimed two wickets for 24. Pandrekar was also unbeaten on 47 (6x4, 2x6) at the draw of stumps today. I. Gadekar (35, 7x4), P. Gawas (24, 2x4, 1x6), L. Garg (22, 3x4) and S. Alam (20, 3x4, 1x6) were the other main scorers for the visiting side.
Roshan Alam of Assam returned with the figures of three for 41.
With two days of play still ahead, Assam will look forward to full points from an outright victory in the tournament.
