A devotee from Myanmar dances at the ninth Tipitaka chanting ceremony at the Mahabodhi temple in Bodhgaya on Monday. More than 3,000 devotees from nine countries assembled at Mahabodhi Mahavihara, making it the first such conglomeration since serial blasts struck Bodhgaya on July 7.
The devotees will participate in the 10-day chanting ceremony that started on Monday with prayers for world peace. Myanmar is organising the event for the second consecutive year. A colourful procession was taken out from Kalchakra grounds to the Mahavihara. The ground is around 200m north-west of the Mahavihara.
The devotees participated in the procession in the traditional costumes of their respective countries. Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. The Speaker of Myanmar Parliament, U. Khin Aung Myint, who is on a Bodhgaya visit with a 27-member delegation, also joined the inaugural session.
