Calcutta, Dec. 2: One person was killed when a mini truck collided with a car tonight on Red Road, one of the most patrolled streets in the city.
According to police, a Ford Figo that turned left towards Mayo Road hit the truck coming from the opposite direction. The driver of the car, who was alone, was unhurt.
Fifteen persons travelling in the truck were taken to SSKM hospital. While one person succumbed to his injuries, eight were released after first aid.
It was not immediately clear how the person died.
“The driver of the truck had slammed the brakes hard. It slowed down the vehicle before the collision, which is why there was little damage to the car. But the slamming of brakes must have led the person who died to hit his head either against some metal or he might have fallen below. The cause can’t be ascertained now,” said an officer of Maidan police station. The person who died was yet to be identified till late tonight.
