Calcutta: Seventeenth-seeded Simarjeet Singh pulled out all his experience to win two matches against tougher opponents to enter the semi-finals of the Tata Steel Eastern India Amateur Golf Championship, here, at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club, on Friday.
The former three-time Sri Lankan Open Amateur first ousted top seed Samarth Dwivedi 2 & 1 before beating Ankur Chadha by a similar fashion in the quarter final on a day when most of the seeded players bit the dust.
The 23 rd seed Chadha had ousted eighth seed Manu Gandas 2-up in a second round tie, while 12th seed Arjun Sharma first beat fifth seed Syed Saqib Ahmed 3 & 2 and later showed fourth seed Gagan Verma the door with a 2 & 1 victory.
In the first round, local lad S.K. Pappu caused the biggest upset when he ousted second seed and India international Trishul Chinnappa. Pappu was a 1-up winner over the Bangalore lad.
