Siliguri, Nov. 26: The North Bengal Medical College and Hospital today opened a 30-bed psychiatry ward where patients suffering from illnesses like schizophrenia, severe depression and anxiety could be admitted.
“So far, there had been only an outpatient department for the psychiatry ward and the doctors would examine patients there, prescribe medicines and ask them to come for further treatment on another date. Today, we started inpatient department for the psychiatry section. Doctors can now recommend admission of patients if they feel it is necessary. There are 15 beds each for male and female patients in the new ward,” said NBMCH superintendent Sabyasachi Das.
NBMCH sources said patients suffering from mental illnesses like schizophrenia, severe depression and anxiety would be admitted to the indoor ward.
