Found dead in fountain

A man was found dead, submerged in the fountain on the premises of the New Market Parkomat on Tuesday morning. Police suspect the man, who had apparently scaled the fountain wall, lost balance and fell into the water.

“We suspect he had a heart attack. Otherwise he would not have drowned in a 3ft-deep fountain. There are no external injury marks to suggest foul play,” said an officer of New Market police station, where a case has been registered.

Sources said the man has been identified as Jamal, a Metiabruz resident who worked in a New Market shop.

“Some people said Jamal had been behaving abnormally of late. He would undress in public and wrap himself in a festoon,” the officer said.
