Sarala Birla claim title

Guwahati, Nov. 25: Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti got the better of South Point School by 20 runs to emerge champions of the eighth Partijat Mazumdar All-Assam under-16 inter-school Cricket Tournament at Latasil ground here today.

Put in to bat, Sarala Birla put up a total of 161 runs before being bundled out in the last ball of their stipulated 35 overs. Anindya Sharma topscored with 43 runs off 30 deliveries while Navneet Dhar contributed 39 runs off 76 balls. Aditya Gautam was the other notable scorer with 33 runs off 42 deliveries.

Abhinash Terang scalped three wickets giving away 27 runs in his allotted seven overs, while Debobrata Shil picked up two wickets for 33 runs in his allotted overs.

In reply, South Point School could only manage 141 runs before being bundled out in 31.4 overs. Abhinash scored 32 runs off 27 balls while Abhijit Roy chipped in with 30 runs off 48 deliveries.

Shivam Roy contributed 20 runs off 29 balls. Malay Anand was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets to his kitty for 29 runs in 5.4 overs while Ayushman Paul and Vidit Agarwal scalped two wickets each.

Malay was adjudged Man of the Match for his fine bowling performance while Abhinash was named Man of the Series. Kaustav Hazarika of Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti was adjudged the Best Batsman of the Tournament while fellow teammate Ayushman walked away with the Best Bowler award. Abdul Aziz of Maharishi Vidya Mandir was adjudged the Best Fielder while Anindya was the Best Wicketkeeper of the tournament.

Rowing medal

Nafisa Sadiq of Assam bagged a gold medal in the junior women’s single scull event in the 34th Junior National Rowing Championship that concluded at Roorkee in Uttarakhand on Sunday.

Cricket meet

The City Cricket Coaching Centre will organise the All Assam Under-13 1st City Challenge Inter Coaching Centre Cricket Tournament from November28 at the Janata Bhawan Parade Ground. Interested teams have been asked to contact the organisers at the earliest.
